In the heart of Buenos Aires, opposite Plaza San Martín, you will find the emblematic Paz Palace: one of the city's main architectural gems. Built in the early 20th century by order of José C. Paz, founder of the newspaper La Prensa and Argentine ambassador to Paris from 1885 to 1893, it is the largest private residence in the country and one of the few in the country. Buenos Aires is known for its palace design and layout. It was conceived as a family home, with four floors, 140 rooms, and a total covered area of 12,000 m2. A reflection of Beaux-Arts architecture, its architect was the prestigious Frenchman Louis-Marie Henri Sortais and construction management was carried out by the prestigious Argentine architect and engineer Carlos Agote. After being inhabited for a brief period by the Paz family, in 1938 it became the headquarters of the Military Circle, National Military Library and National Weapons Museum.
