Aquarium of the Bay - Admission

The Aquarium of the Bay's Pier 39 facility proudly displays 300 feet of crystal-clear acrylic tunnels containing 700,000 gallons of meticulously maintained bay water, providing a habitat for approximately 20,000 animals, from octopuses to impressive eight-foot, seven-gill native sharks. Visitors enjoy captivating jellyfish exhibits and have the unique opportunity to interact with bat rays, stingrays, and the fascinating animals of the "splash zone." In its fifteen-year history, the spectacular Aquarium of the Bay has welcomed more than seven million visitors, including more than 100,000 schoolchildren.

Your exploration of the Aquarium of the Bay begins with 'Discover the Bay,' where you'll discover the diverse ecosystems that are home to a variety of marine life. Through eight exhibits featuring over a thousand aquatic animals, you'll learn more about the creatures that live in the Bay.

Exhibition highlights include:

- 'Beauties of the Bay': Visit San Francisco Bay's most colorful animals, such as the bright orange Garibaldi (California's state marine fish), green moray eels, and multi-colored stonefish, in the first exhibit on the right.

- River otters

Did you know that the lateral lines on anchovies' bodies act as sensory organs? This allows them to sense where a school of fish is moving, stay together, and avoid predators.

- 'Bay babies,' from newborn rays to juvenile perch and other fish, explore their newborns underwater. San Francisco Bay is a breeding ground for many fish species.
