Known as the Galapagos of Peru, or the "poor man's Galapagos," they're nonetheless a fantastic wildlife destination: you probably wouldn't expect to see penguins in Peru, but they're there, sitting alongside sea lions and cormorants; swimming with dolphins and (depending on the season) even whales.
ITINERARY
We begin by sailing to the most important wildlife sanctuary on the Peruvian coast, a two-hour excursion to the Ballestas Islands.
Along the way, we will have the opportunity to see the "Candelabra", a gigantic figure of unknown origin, in the style of the Nazca Lines, drawn in the sand on the side of a hill.
Then we will sail for another fifteen minutes and arrive at the Ballestas Islands, where we will see rock formations and a wide variety of marine species, sea lions, Humboldt penguins, chuitas, guanays, pelicans, oystercatchers, thousands of guano birds. These beautiful islands are home to thousands of migratory birds, which share their habitat with colonies of restless sea lions.
We then arrived at the sea lion maternity ward.
We returned to the pier to finish this excursion. Notes: Sometimes the sea is too rough to visit the Ballestas Islands by boat. If the weather forecast predicts a storm, we may cancel the Ballestas Islands boat tour for safety reasons. In this case, a refund will be issued.
Departure time may vary depending on sea conditions on the day of the tour.
