Few countries felt the ravages of WWII like France – find out more inside
Journey through Normandy's wartime history, deep into the tribulations of WWII, at Mémorial de Caen. Located on the town's outskirts, less than 10 miles from Sword Beach, it documents the events at one of the landing zones for Allied soldiers on June 6, 1944, a.k.a. D-Day. The museum combines reels of archival information with artifacts from the 1940s – including maps, photographs, military objects and the small luxuries of civilian life – to guide you through history. You'll gain a deeper understanding of the struggles American, Canadian and other soldiers faced to retake northern France from Nazi occupation.
