Chantilly Castle & Horse Museum
A historical monument linked to the figure of François Vatel (17th century), who is said to have created the culinary recipe for Chantilly cream here, the Château de Chantilly comprises two main buildings: the Grand Château and the Petit Château. Later, in the 18th century, Louis-Sébastien Mercier (French writer - 18th/19th centuries) refers to it as follows:
“I have never found anything comparable to Chantilly in the outskirts of the capital. (…) Thirty trips to this enchanted place have not diminished my admiration. It is the best marriage ever made between art and nature.”
The palace occupies the site of a medieval castle. The grand stables, built in the 18th century, are a masterpiece by the architect Aubert and currently house the Musée vivant du cheval (Living Horse Museum). The gardens are one of André Le Nôtre's most remarkable creations.
