The time Jesus actually spent in the bustling city of Jerusalem is relatively short compared to the time he spent in Galilee, and especially in the pastoral fishing village of Capernaum, "his city." Head north from Jerusalem, arriving in Nazareth, and visit the Church of the Annunciation and the Church of St. Joseph. Climb Mount Tabor for magnificent views of the Jezreel Valley and visit the Church of the Transfiguration. Continue east to the shores of the Sea of Galilee to visit Tabgha and Capernaum.
Itinerary:
Visit the Church of the Annunciation, which commemorates the angel Gabriel's announcement to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus, the Son of God.
Visit the Church of St. Joseph, built on the site of the carpentry workshop of Jesus' father, Joseph.
Drive east and climb Mount Tabor for magnificent views of the Jezreel Valley and visit the Church of the Transfiguration, the traditional site of Jesus' transfiguration.
Continue east to the shores of the Sea of Galilee and visit Tabgha, the site of the 'miracle of the loaves and fishes'.
Pass by the Mount of Beatitudes, where the Sermon on the Mount took place, and visit Capernaum, a 2,000-year-old Jewish fishing village that was the center of Jesus' messianic work. Known as "his people," Jesus spent a substantial portion of his life here: healing the sick, preaching in the synagogue, and performing miracles.
