- Brazilian Driver Guide → Normandy - Disembarkation Beaches
Two events, separated by nine centuries, attract tourists from all over the world to this isolated region of Normandy.
One of them, less known, happened in the year 1066, when William the Conqueror, at the head of the Norman army, crossed the English Channel from France to England in Viking ships, to defeat the English at the Battle of Hastings and become the first king of France and England.
The other, more recent, D-Day, occurred on June 6, 1944, also known as "the longest day." This date marked a new trajectory for World War II and changed the course of humanity.
After visiting Caen, nearly destroyed during the war and known as the "Martyr City," and the Peace Museum, we will emotionally visit the places where the Allies fought to regain freedom. We will visit Omaha, Utah, and Juno beaches, where the Americans landed and had to face mines, barbed wire, French cannons captured by the Germans, the famous "porcupine" obstacles, and German machine gun fire.
We will continue to Ponta do Hoc, a cliff located between Omaha and Utah beaches, where the objective was to neutralize the artillery and cut the road that runs behind the point.
