ITINERARY
The Cusco City Tour begins in the main square of the imperial city, a living example of the blend of Andean and Spanish cultures.
We begin with the Temple of Qoricancha, where you can admire the various temples. This religious center is known as the 'Temple of the Sun,' and was in fact the most important temple of the Inca era. What stands out here is the impressive engineering used in its construction, and the paintings from the Cusquenian School within.
After our guided tour of this important Inca temple, we continued on to the Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park, where we could observe enormous blocks of Inca architecture perfectly joined together. It is an impressive fortress of exquisite architecture, famous for its rock construction. Some of these rocks are about 9 meters high and weigh over 350 tons. Sacsayhuaman is the site of the 'Inti Raymi' (Festival of the Sun) celebration every June 24th.
We will arrive at the archaeological complex of Q'enko, which was a ceremonial and religious center during the Inca period. Q'enko was an amphitheater where sacrifices were performed.
We will continue our tour until we reach Puca Pucara, an ancient Inca guard post and entry control into the capital of the Inca state.
Finally, we will arrive at Tambomachay, which was a very important place for the Incas, as it was here that they worshipped the water while enjoying their leisure time; it is also known as the place of the waters of eternal youth.
Finally, we will return to the city center, where you can have dinner before returning to your hotel. Notes: What do I need to bring?
