This archaeological site, located in northern Peru, is home to a fascinating system of rock-cut canals dating back over a thousand years. The tour will take you through these intricate water channels, often referred to as the 'Aqueducts of Cumbemayo.' Learn about the engineering skills of the pre-Inca cultures that created this impressive network. With the breathtaking natural beauty surrounding you, you'll feel as if you've traveled back in time.
ITINERARY
We depart Cajamarca and begin our tour with a brief stop at Mirador Bellavista, offering panoramic views of the city and its surrounding landscape. From there, we can also see Santa Apolônia Hill.
On the way, we will see the Layzon archaeological site, located next to the road.
Arriving in Cumbemayo, we will visit the small local museum to get a general idea of the canal's route and details of its length.
We will begin our walk by stopping at the so-called Sanctuary, then continue to the Tunnel of Wishes, Stone Forest, Sacrificial Stone, Bocatoma Canal, Cumbemayo Canal, Cave Shelters and Ceremonial Altars.
We will visit the impressive northern Andean landscape and the Frailones volcanic rock forest. In Cumbemayo, we will observe the sacrificial stone and ceremonial altars in honor of water, as well as tour the most important hydraulic work in Latin America, 'The Cumbemayo Canal', and different whimsical rock formations.
