Relax and enjoy the scenery on the way to the city. Follow your local guide on a walking tour of the historic city of Toledo, a World Heritage site since 1986. Once the capital of Spain, it is a spectacular blend of Arab, Jewish, and Christian cultures. Explore its fantastic heritage and discover how the coexistence of cultures over the centuries has influenced its current architectural style.
Stroll through the courtyard cloisters and the royal coats of arms of the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. Admire the building sponsored by Isabella of Castile to become a mausoleum, the most important construction built during the era of the Catholic Monarchs. After the visit, we'll walk to the Santa Maria la Blanca Synagogue. Originally built as a synagogue, it was expropriated and converted into a church just 211 years after its inauguration. Today, it's a fantastic museum of Mudejar art, which you'll visit. Admire El Greco's world-famous painting, The Burial of Count Orgaz, in the Church of Santo Tomé. Did you know that Greco himself lived in this beautiful city? Next, we'll visit the ancient Mosque of Christ of the Light. Of the ten mosques that Toledo had, this is the best preserved.
You will have approximately an hour and a half of free time for lunch.
At the agreed time, meet your guide again for a visit to Toledo Cathedral, considered one of the most important Gothic cathedrals in Spain. Admire the stained-glass windows that decorate the nave and discover the history of this magnificent monument. See more than ten paintings by El Greco and walk through the cathedral while listening to your guide's explanations.
Before returning to Madrid, we will take a short panoramic tour of the surroundings of Toledo on the bus to the Valle viewpoint.
