This workshop offers you the unique experience of learning how to make silver jewelry with Colombian emeralds. You'll also learn more about mining and the jewelry transformation process.
The experience begins with a hands-on jewelry workshop lasting approximately 90 to 120 minutes. Included are sterling silver materials, raw Colombian emeralds, tools, written instructions with step-by-step images, a personal instructor, and a guided tour of the school's laboratories, where various manufacturing techniques are demonstrated. Upon completion, you will receive a diploma.
Next, you'll take a guided tour of the Emerald Museum (25 to 45 minutes), where you'll learn all about emeralds—their historical significance and scientific characteristics. With the help of a life-size replica, you'll experience the sensation of being inside an emerald tunnel and observe the miners at work. The museum also houses the legendary Petra, a 236-pound emerald—the largest ever found in Colombia—with over sixty crystals and over two thousand carats in total.
Finally, you'll visit the Del Caribe Jewelry Factory and its showroom (approximately 25 to 45 minutes), where you can watch artisans create gold and silver jewelry adorned with emeralds. You'll also get to tour the showroom of this family-owned business.
