On this self-guided tour, we'll explore the imposing Panthéon in Paris, an architectural masterpiece designed by Jacques-Germain Soufflot (1713–1780). Originally conceived as a church dedicated to Saint Genevieve at the behest of Louis XV, the building was transformed into a secular mausoleum during the French Revolution in 1791.
The main exhibition pays tribute to Soufflot himself, celebrating his career and achievements, including the monumental Abbey of Saint Genevieve, now the Pantheon.
Throughout the 19th century, the building alternated between religious and patriotic functions, and from 1885 onwards, it became the final resting place of great figures in French history. In the crypt, we'll visit the tombs of more than 70 illustrious figures, including Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Émile Zola, Alexandre Dumas, and Pierre and Marie Curie.
And to complete the experience, between April and October, we'll have access to the recently restored upper floors, which offer stunning panoramic views of Paris.
