The Memorial:
Located on eight acres of the 16-acre World Trade Center complex, the 9/11 Memorial is a place of remembrance and contemplation amidst the hustle and bustle of lower Manhattan. The names of the 2,983 men, women, and children who died in the attacks of September 11, 2001, and February 26, 1993, are inscribed on bronze parapets surrounding the Memorial's twin lakes, situated in the footprints of the Twin Towers.
The Museum:
The Museum tells the story of 9/11 through artifacts, images, personal stories, and interactive technology. Learn more about the main exhibitions, special exhibits, and rotating galleries across the museum's 110,000 square feet of space.
Historical Exhibition: September 11, 2001:
Visitors see artifacts in the museum's Historical Exhibit, including a large steel trident from a facade of the Twin Towers. This historical exhibit presents the story of 9/11 using artifacts, images, first-person accounts, and archival audio and video recordings. The exhibition is composed of three parts: the Events of the Day, as they unfolded; Before 9/11, which provides the historical context leading up to the attacks; and After 9/11, which addresses the immediate and ongoing repercussions of the terrorist attacks.
Memorial Exhibition: In Memoriam:
The memorial exhibit honors the 2,977 people who died as a result of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, both here and at the Pentagon and in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. It also honors the six people who died in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on February 26, 1993.
Tower Rising:
Opening on the 50th anniversary of the original World Trade Center's opening, the 9/11 Memorial Museum's newest special exhibition features artworks from the permanent collection. The works chronicle the ways artists imagined lower Manhattan's most iconic towers before and after 9/11. On view through October 2024.
