- Excursion to Bath and Stonehenge

Stonehenge, located on Salisbury Plain, is a World Heritage Site, a megalithic alignment from the Bronze Age. It is the most visited and well-known British stone circle, and its origin and function remain unknown to this day, but it is thought to have been used for astronomical, magical, or religious studies.
The average sarsen at Stonehenge weighs 25 tons. 2.13m of Stone 56, the tallest standing stone on the site, is buried underground – in total, it measures 8.71 meters from base to tip. The bluestones traveled 240km to Wiltshire from South Wales, probably by boat. Around 1,500 Roman artifacts have been found at Stonehenge. Coins, pins, jewelry, and pottery fragments are just some of the objects found. They were not left only by Roman tourists, but are thought to have been left by people who visited Stonehenge as a sanctuary – large pits were also excavated within the monument at that time.
Bath is known for its three springs that feed its thermal waters. It is said that the city was founded as a result of the Romans discovering miraculously healing water in the area. For the wealthy, it served as a thermal spa complex from the Elizabethan to the Georgian era.
