The painter Claude Monet – his house and gardens in Giverny
In Giverny you will discover the home of the famous painter Claude Monet. A very flowery village, with its hollyhocks cascading along the walls of the houses with wooden beams (in the Norman style). A truly enchanting scene! Everything is very well preserved, and all the furniture and gardens are meticulously cared for! It was here that the painter Claude Monet, arriving by train in Normandy in search of a house to rent, discovered a landscape that dazzled him, jumped off the train, and went to find a place where he lived until his death (Monet was the founder of the Impressionist movement).
The city is internationally known thanks to Claude Monet, who lived there for 43 years. Many of his paintings were created in Giverny, and just by looking at photos of the surrounding area, it's possible to see where the painter drew his inspiration from. Monet, the most celebrated Impressionist painter the Earth has ever known!
He painted the famous series of paintings called "Water Lilies" in Giverny. Monet based his work on the lake and the small Japanese bridge in front of his own home in autumn, because it was at that time of year that the flowers fell onto the lake. He was always fascinated by the interplay of light and the reflections of the clouds on the water. Even today we have exactly the beautiful view that inspired Monet to paint.
Monet's gardens, the town and surroundings of Giverny, served as his models and attract half a million visitors from around the world each year.
The entire area, as painters were seduced by the particular light of the Seine valley (which is next door) and Giverny (which is the Epte valley).
During your stay in Paris, be sure to visit the famous Marmottan Museum, the Orsay Museum, and the Orangerie Museum, where you can admire the most important works of the painter Claude Monet.
