The painter Claude Monet – his house and gardens in Giverny
In Giverny, you'll discover the home of the famous painter Claude Monet. A flower-filled village, with hollyhocks cascading down the walls of the Norman-style wooden-beamed houses. A truly enchanting sight! Everything is very well preserved, and all the furniture and gardens are immaculately manicured! It was here that the painter Claude Monet, arriving by train from Normandy in search of a house to rent, discovered a landscape that dazzled him. He jumped off the train and set off to find a place, where he lived until his death (Monet was the founder of the Impressionist movement).
The city is internationally known thanks to Claude Monet, who lived there for 43 years. Many of his paintings were painted in Giverny, and just by looking at photos of the surrounding area, you can see where the painter drew his inspiration. Monet, the most famous Impressionist painter the world has ever known!
He painted the famous series of paintings called "Water Lilies" in Giverny. Monet based his paintings on the lake and the small Japanese bridge at his own home in autumn, because that was the time of year when the flowers fell over the lake. He was always captivated by the play of light and the reflections of clouds on the water. Even today, we see precisely the beautiful vision that inspired Monet to paint.
The gardens of Monet's house, the city and the environment of Giverny, were his models and attract half a million visitors from around the world every year.
whole, as the painters were seduced by the particular light of the Seine valley (which is next door) and Giverny (which is the Epte valley).
During your stay in Paris, be sure to visit the famous Marmottan Museum, the Orsay Museum, and the Orangerie Museum, where you can admire the most important works by painter Claude Monet.
