Drive south through the Judean Desert, past the Good Samaritan Inn and the "sea level" marker, with the ancient city of Jericho in the distance, to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, nearly 400 meters below sea level.
Drive along the shores of the Dead Sea and take a cable car ride to Masada, Israel's most important archaeological site, to understand why someone would venture into the desert to build a magnificent fortress atop a lifeless mountain.
Visit the fortified palace, water cisterns, bathhouse, and synagogue where the Romans, after triumphantly destroying Jerusalem, sent an entire legion to confront a small group of Zealots who made their last stand before committing mass suicide in 73 AD.
Take the cable car to the shores of the Dead Sea to experience the therapeutic qualities of the Dead Sea mud, as well as the unique experience of floating in the mineral-rich waters of the sea itself.
