Activity description
After boarding the tour vehicle, we'll head toward Citrus County and the famous Crystal River, the only place in the world where it's legal to swim and snorkel with wild manatees. After a briefing from our professional tour guide and a safety briefing at the dive shop, you'll be fully prepared for your boat tour.
A Coast Guard-certified boat captain will slowly cruise the river in search of wild manatees in the Crystal River. You can choose to snorkel and swim in the crystal-clear waters or simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the natural surroundings on the boat ride. Manatees, also known as sea cows, are gentle giants, and when snorkeling in the river where they usually swim, they sometimes come up to greet you or even roll over for a tickle. You can't approach wild manatees; they are wild in the river, but if spotted, they will often approach humans. This is an experience you won't want to miss.
Back on dry land, you'll have the opportunity to change at the dive shop before heading to lunch.
The afternoon allows us to spend time at Ellie Schiller Homosassa State Wildlife Park—one of Florida's best-kept secrets. This 210-acre park offers the opportunity to see many of Florida's endangered animals, such as the state panther and black bears. Known as Nature's Fish Bowl, it features an underwater observation chamber overlooking the springs, where the park's manatees like to roam—they stay there during their rehabilitation before being released back into the wild. This park strives to rescue and rehabilitate as many animals as possible, while also providing a safe environment for those whose injuries often prevent them from returning to the wild.
Arriving back in the Orlando area around 4pm, this tour is truly a true Florida adventure and something unique to this area.
Notes:
Please note that the tour does not include hotel pick-up and starts from different meeting points.
* Bring towels and a change of clothes for after your dive.
*This activity may not be available on some holidays, including Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Please note: Mandatory fee of USD 15 for wetsuit for any swimmer, payable on day of tour.
