The Longest Day
Two events, separated by nine centuries, attract tourists from around the world to this isolated region of Normandy. One of them, lesser known,
It happened in the year 1066, when William the Conqueror, at the head of the Norman army, crossed the English Channel from France to England in Viking ships, to defeat the English at the Battle of Hastings and become the first king of France and England.
The other, more recent, D-Day, occurred on June 6, 1944, also known as "the longest day." This date marked a new trajectory for World War II and changed the course of humanity.
After visiting Caen, nearly destroyed during the war and known as the "Martyr City," and the Peace Museum, you'll be moved to visit the places where the Allies fought to regain freedom. Discover Omaha, Utah, and Juno beaches, where the Americans landed and faced mines, barbed wire, French cannons captured by the Germans, the famous "porcupine" obstacles, and German machine gun fire. Continue to Hoc Point, a cliff located between Omaha and Utah beaches, where the Rangers' objective was
neutralize the artillery and cut the road that runs behind the point.
