The Lights of Paris... Anyone who thinks that Paris is considered the City of Lights just because of the number of light bulbs or because of its pioneering work in electricity is mistaken.
Of course, at night, the city enchants with the beauty of its architecture, its monuments and avenues, and its many museums. But where did this name come from? It's that simple: the Enlightenment! Who doesn't remember that history class in high school about the "light of ideas" after the "dark" period of the Middle Ages?
In the 18th century, intellectuals tried to explain the universe with reason and science, enlightening the human mind with philosophy. For this reason, Paris, one of the European capitals that hosted the movement, became known as the City of Lights.
The invention of street lamps with oil lamps for decoration only reinforced their fame at the turn of the 20th century. Now, in the 21st century, Parisian lights are different and continue to enchant the world. The technique of electricity has become art. And at night, the light show transforms the Napoleonic capital into another city.
The monuments and architectural symbols under the spotlight are an unmissable spectacle, as are the many sparkling gardens and water features.
