Let's explore the Maquiné Cave, located in the city of Cordisburgo, 120 km from Belo Horizonte. The Maquiné Cave was discovered in 1825. Its scientific exploration began in 1834 by the Danish naturalist Peter Lund.
With seven explored chambers, the cave is full of natural ornaments. Its 650 meters contain one of the most beautiful collections of speleothems (stalactites, stalagmites, columns) discovered in the state.
Furthermore, the cave has lighting and walkways, allowing visitors to admire its beauty, accompanied by a local guide.
We will also visit the city of Cordisburgo, where we will see three monuments:
Guimarães Rosa House Museum
The house where the famous writer was born was renovated and transformed into a museum in 1974, after passing through several owners. Visitors are greeted by young volunteers who tell stories about the writer and narrate excerpts from his works. The shop run by Guimarães Rosa's father, which operated until 1923, has reappeared in the same room; now it sells souvenirs of the city and various books. The house is located on a corner, opposite the railway line that cuts through the city.
Peter Lund Stone Zoo
The square named "Peter Lund Stone Zoo" displays statues of animals whose fossils were found in the Maquiné Cave by Peter Lund, including the Giant Sloth and the Saber-Toothed Tiger.
Grande Sertão Portal
The Grande Sertão Portal, inaugurated in Cordisburgo at Praça Miguilim on June 27, 2010, the date on which Guimarães Rosa would have turned 102 years old, is an important artistic work through which the people of Cordisburgo pay yet another tribute to the illustrious son of their land. Conceived and created by the visual artist Leo Santana, the monument "marks the entrance to the Minas Gerais hinterland" and makes reference to what is considered the writer's great masterpiece, the book Grande Sertão: Veredas, which in 2021 is celebrating its 65th anniversary.

Departures on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with times to be arranged, as travel time may vary depending on the location of each hotel.
During the tour, there may be stops for visits, and the waiting time will be determined exclusively by the tour guide. Therefore, the time informed by the guide must be respected by the passengers. Failure to arrive at the pre-scheduled time will be considered abandonment of the tour, and we will not be responsible for providing extra vehicles to continue the tour or return to the hotel, nor will there be any refund of amounts paid.
It is essential that the visit be made wearing closed shoes, preferably sneakers or boots. Access to the cave is not permitted wearing open shoes or sandals.
Children aged 6 and older are allowed to visit the cave, provided they present identification and are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Infant car seats are mandatory for babies up to one year old, as are child car seats for children aged one to four years, and booster seats for children aged four to seven and a half years.
