Activity description
Visit the city of Petrópolis, located 60 km from Rio, known as the Imperial City since Emperor Dom Pedro II.
Founded by Germans, Petrópolis is a living memory of Brazilian history with its charming buildings and streets.
After hotel pickup, the bus will take about 80 minutes to reach the city of Petrópolis. Upon arrival, you'll have a beautiful view of Quintandinha Palace. Next, the tour begins with a visit to the Imperial Museum, the former summer residence of Emperor Pedro II, which still houses furniture and objects such as the gold crown, pearls, and diamonds worn by Pedro I and Pedro II.
It was the Emperor's favorite residence, where he spent the best moments of his life. Construction began in 1845, in neoclassical style, at the monarch's behest. The original design was by German major and engineer Júlio Frederico Koeler.
The lobby floor, in Carrara marble and black marble from Belgium, was laid in 1854, with the floors and frames also featuring hardwoods, such as rosewood, cedar, satinwood, rosewood and vinhático, from the various provinces of the Empire.
The tour continues to the Gothic cathedral where Princess Isabel was buried, along with the tombstones of Dom Pedro II and his wife. From there, stroll to a tranquil park and admire the beautiful Crystal Palace, a glass and steel ballroom with chandeliers, all built and imported from France as a gift to Princess Isabel from her husband. Hear about the exhibitions and royal parties that took place here.
Next, you'll visit the Santos Dumont Museum House (tickets not included), better known as A Encantada. A picturesque residence nestled in a steep part of the city, built in 1918, the museum preserves and promotes the memory of the father of Brazilian aviation, the engineering genius who revolutionized the world.
If you want, in your free time, you can choose to visit either Teresa Street or the Bohemia Beer Factory.
Teresa Street is an open-air shopping mall with a wide variety of products and clothing at very good prices. Take your time and buy souvenirs for the whole family. Or if you're more into discovering local beers, visit the Bohemia Brewery (tickets not included), the first of its kind in Brazil. The tour is an interactive journey through the history, art, and science of brewing. Learn all about beer from ancient times to the present day. Taste Bohemia straight from the source and experience the whole experience in a modern and interactive environment. The Bohemia Brewery also has a store, a bar, and a restaurant where you can enjoy all of its specialty beers with delicious dishes and snacks.
