TourCave paintings of Cerro Benitez

On the Cerro Benítez Trek, we will discover the footprints of the past and, to do so, we will head north of Puerto Natales. A little over 25 km away, we will begin our exploration journey by walking through the Archaeological Park located within the Ernesto Helmer Ranch.

The route will offer us views of imposing mountains, crevices, ledges and valleys. In the area, we will be able to access the perches of the condors that will dominate the skies and, once we reach the top, we will have a spectacular panoramic view of the Eberhard Fjord, the Señoret Channel and the iconic Laguna Sofía.

Cerro Benítez will be part of an archaeological and paleontological area that will house cave paintings that are approximately 3,500 years old. We will visit the Window Cave and then enter the hidden cave from the south side, where we will use headlamps and move carefully. This cave will be approximately 4 meters high and about 70 square meters. Inside, we will be able to see ancient stalactites, formed by the accumulation of salts and minerals due to the filtering and constant dripping of water over thousands of years.

Once we have completed this adventure, we will leave the cave and head towards a set of ledges called "Dos Herraduras". Along the way, we will walk through leafy forests and finally observe the cave paintings on the walls of this rocky structure, which was once the bottom of the sea.
