ITINERARY
Day 1
Upon arrival at the airport or bus station, you'll be transferred to the office for a final briefing about our tour before embarking on your adventure. If your luggage is bulky, we recommend packing it and storing unnecessary items to ensure a comfortable trip.
Next, we'll travel in a 4WD van for 2 hours to reach the banks of the Tambopata River. If we travel by river, the trip will take over 6 hours (for information only).
At this point, we will board a boat to the lodge.
Upon arrival, you will be welcomed with breakfast or lunch, depending on your arrival time.
In the afternoon, we'll embark on an introductory rainforest tour, where you'll have the opportunity to observe animals in their natural habitat, including amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and a variety of insects, among others.
Day 2
We will wake up early, at 4:30 am, to begin our journey to the largest macaw licking hole in the world, CHUNCHO.
We'll take a boat ride of approximately 1.5 hours to reach the site, during which we'll encounter fascinating animals such as capybaras, tapirs, and even the majestic jaguar, which some of our previous guests have been lucky enough to see and photograph.
Upon arriving at the clay pit, we will witness an impressive spectacle of hundreds of parrots and macaws gathering to eat clay, a necessary component of their daily diet that also helps them eliminate toxins.
We sit and wait for the show to begin. The parrots will be followed by three species of macaws, which are among the most colorful birds in the Americas, with reds and greens, blues and yellows. On a good day, we'll see hundreds of these magnificent creatures soaring overhead—an unforgettable experience.
After breakfast, we'll take a boat back to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the port for a one-hour ride to our accommodation, where we'll be welcomed with a refreshing fruit juice.
After check-in and lunch, we will visit 'Monkey Island', located on the other side of the Madre de Dios River, where we can observe different species of monkeys, such as the brown capuchin monkey, the squirrel monkey and the tamarind monkey.
At night, we'll embark on a search for white caimans, which are frequently found on the sandbars of the Madre de Dios River. Don't forget to bring a flashlight. We might also spot some capybaras.
After returning to the lodge, we will have dinner and rest.
Day 3
After breakfast, we'll hike 3 km through dense rainforest to reach Lake Sandoval, one of the largest lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve. We'll board a rowboat to observe a variety of bird species, including shansho cormorants, jacanas, puma herons, vultures, howler monkeys, brown capuchin monkeys, tamarins, and sloths, among others. We may also have the opportunity to encounter the endangered giant otter family, which can reach up to two meters in length—a rare spectacle.
After the boat trip, we returned to the lodge to enjoy a typical lunch.
In the afternoon, we will have another opportunity to stroll and appreciate the diversity of species of insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other nocturnal animals.
We returned to the accommodation for dinner and a peaceful sleep.
Day 4: Last day
At 5:30 am, we'll begin our morning jungle walk and head to our canopy walkway, which is about 30 meters high, allowing us to appreciate nature from the highest possible vantage point.
We'll also have a panoramic view of the Madre de Dios River. From the platforms, we'll be able to observe various bird species, including toucans, macaws, tanagers, and orioles, making it a wonderful experience.
After breakfast, we return to the city and transfer to the airport and/or bus station.
