When Frank Met Charlie: An Imaginary Encounter This musical tells the story of the supposed encounter between Carlos Gardel and Frank Sinatra in New York around 1934. The show features Gardel's best tangos, sung in Spanish and English. The play won seven Hugo Awards, including Best Musical. According to legend, in 1934, Gardel was performing on NBC in New York when a young admirer approached him, eager to meet the "great baritone of River Plate," who was none other than 19-year-old Frank Sinatra. This starting point sparked a very compelling idea: the night Gardel and Sinatra were locked in a dressing room... Gardel, trying to get his annoying fan off his back. Sinatra, trying to understand the passion he perceived in Zorzal's music... The two, beginning a friendship that would last forever. Women, friends, neighborhood, gambling, lunfardo, good and bad company are just some of the themes that Carlitos and Frank address while interpreting the best of the Gardelian repertoire in the style and language of the Mute, and in the style and language of the Voice.
