Ouro Preto, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, with its more than 300 years of history, is among the most important historical cities in the country. Famous for its exquisite colonial architecture, the city was built by artists and slaves at the height of the Gold Rush. Its imposing and silent churches contrast with the youthful and cheerful atmosphere provided by the contagious movement of students and tourists.
Some of the attractions visited: Church of São Francisco, Inconfidência Museum, Tiradentes Square, Pilar Church, Carmo Church, Soapstone Craft Fair, among others.
Mariana, known as the cradle of Minas Gerais civilization, was the first capital, city, and town of the state, and also the first bishopric seat of Minas Gerais. Today, the city is the guardian of an important part of Minas Gerais' cultural and historical heritage, such as the Cathedral of Sé, the Church of São Francisco de Assis, and Minas Gerais Square, which hold exquisite examples of colonial art from Minas Gerais.
