Activity description
A history filled with ships laden with riches and pirate attacks. It was through the port of Angra dos Reis that some of the gold brought from Minas Gerais departed.
Spectacular view: mountainous terrain covered by the green of the Atlantic Forest, islands and beautiful beaches with crystal-clear waters, a perfect place for water sports.
Angra dos Reis, with a colonial past, was established in the early 1500s, when the city was a major port and agricultural center. After hotel pickups, the bus will depart for Angra (165 km, an average 2.5-hour trip). A schooner awaits visitors for a boat tour of the islands, including snorkeling in the beautiful turquoise waters.
First, you'll arrive at the Cataguases Islands, certainly the most paradisiacal of the Angra dos Reis archipelago. With a truly Caribbean feel, the island, among the rest of the region, is the closest to Angra, that is, to the mainland. Sit back and relax on the schooner, sunbathe, and dive into the crystal-clear waters.
The second stop is Lagoa Azul, a natural pool with a sandy bottom, some rocks, and predominantly blue water, located between two islets in the important historical region of Freguesia de Santana. The boats are anchored, and visitors can disembark to swim, float on foam floats provided by the crew, snorkel, or feed bread crumbs to the little sargentinhos (scientific name abdufdef), who are already addicted to being fed by visitors.
Then you'll head to Praia de Baixo. Deserted and beautiful, it's little-known among tourists visiting Ilha Grande. Some enjoy exploring this haven on boat tours around the region. With a good stretch of fine, white sand, the sea is calm, resembling a large natural pool, perfect for swimming. Its beauty and tranquility enchant visitors, who can't resist a delightful dip in the crystal-clear waters of this beach. This is a great place to relax, hike, or dive. Surrounded by a large amount of preserved native forest, there's no infrastructure nearby, meaning tourists should bring their own food and drink.
Finally, you'll stop at Gipoia Island. It's the second largest island in Angra dos Reis Bay, and your final stop will be at Vitorino Beach. This beach is home to a restaurant where you'll enjoy a delicious lunch (if you book the option that includes it). The island is a great option for children and seniors who want a refreshing dip in the sea. Afterward, you'll return to the bus that will take you back to your hotels.
