Head to the National Museum of Anthropology, the largest and most visited in Mexico. Begin your exploration on the ground floor, slowly discovering the museum's thousands of archaeological artifacts. Listen as our local guide reveals the mythology of Mesoamerican cultures and how they influenced modern Mexican society. You'll visit one of the most important buildings in Latin America, housing rooms with pre-Hispanic evidence of the Mexica, Mayan, Toltec, and other ethnic cultures!

Marvel at the colossal stone heads of the Olmec civilization, dating back to the Early Preclassic period. Enter the Mayan Room to see a large collection of incredible murals, as well as a replica of the intricate tomb lid of Pakal. At the end of the corridor, you'll discover a small-scale model of the ancient capital of Tenochtitlan, the area now known as Mexico City. Also here is the centerpiece of the museum's collection, the Aztec Sun Stone. Dating back to 1400, this calendar has been hailed by archaeologist Zelia Nullal as the "remarkable monument ever discovered in the Americas."

The discovery day ends on the top floor, where galleries offer information about today's indigenous populations. See how the descendants of the Aztecs and Mayans live today, with objects ranging from household utensils to art and religious artifacts.
