Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Palace of Versailles was the residence of the French kings Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Louis XVI and their court from 1682 until the French Revolution in 1789. Accompanied by a guide (commentary broadcast through individual headsets), discover the majestic palace, a symbol of royal power: its Baroque architecture, sumptuous decorations, art objects, and furniture crafted by the greatest craftsmen of the time. Afterwards, enjoy the charm of the French-style gardens with complete freedom.
Depart at 8:45 a.m. from our agency in central Paris and head to the Palace of Versailles. Enjoy the 45-minute journey by luxury, air-conditioned coach to listen to your guide's first commentary on the castle's history.
It comprises over 700 rooms and occupies an area of 67,000 m2. Follow your guide and enter directly (without waiting in line) the most beautiful rooms: the King's Grand Apartment with seven rooms, each decorated in the theme of a mythological god (the room of Apollo, Mars, Mercury, Venus, etc.); the Queen's Grand Apartment, arranged symmetrically to the king's, with the Coronation Room; and even the Queen's bedroom, occupied primarily by Marie Antoinette. Also visit the spectacular Hall of Mirrors, a reception space designed by the prestigious architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart. At 73 m long and intended to dazzle King Louis XIV's visitors, it is illuminated by 17 windows and 350 mirrors, and opens onto the palace's splendid gardens (second part of the tour).
In 1661, Louis XIV commissioned André Le Nôtre to design the gardens and park, which were as important to the king as the château itself. Explore the gardens of Versailles at your leisure and admire the 386 works of art (including over 200 statues), fountains, basins, paths, and groves. During the warmer months, various attractions are offered, such as the Grandes Aguas Musicales, with fountains that dance to the rhythm of music.
