- Half-Day Tour: Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque
We will enjoy a half-day tour, starting in the morning at the Ancient Sultanahmet in Istanbul, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will appreciate magical Istanbul and its emblematic places: the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Hippodrome of Constantinople.
Based on the departure time, we will leave the hotel heading to the heart of the Old City; SultanAhmet Square. There, admire Istanbul's most incredible classics, such as Hagia Sophia: one of the greatest architectural wonders, founded as a basilica in the 6th century AD Built by order of Emperor Justinian, Hagia Sophia was the largest cathedral in the world for almost a thousand years; It is considered the masterpiece of Byzantine architecture. After being considered the Patriarchal Basilica of Constantinople, it was converted into a mosque in 1453 by Sultan Mehmet II. The next stop is the Blue Mosque: located opposite the Hagia Sophia, famous for its blue Iznik tiles and its six unique minarets. The Blue Mosque is also known as the Sultan Ahmet Mosque. This is the last great imperial mosque of the classical period. The name by which it is now known, Blue Mosque, comes from the 20,000 wonderful blue-hued Iznik tiles that decorate the interior walls.
The last place to visit is the Hippodrome of Constantinople: this is a former center of sporting events and political activities in the ancient city. The obelisk of Theodosius, the serpentine column and the German fountain of William II are the monuments that can be found and seen mainly during the visit to the Hippodrome.
