TourChantilly Castle and Horse Museum

On this tour we will see the historical monument linked to the character of François Vatel (17th century), who is said to have created the recipe for Chantilly cream here. The Château de Chantilly comprises two main buildings: the Grand Château and the Petit Château.

Later, in the 18th century, Louis-Sébastien Mercier said of it: “I have never found anything comparable to Chantilly in the surroundings of the capital. (…) Thirty trips to this enchanted place have not diminished my admiration. It is the best marriage between art and nature.”

The palace occupies the site of a medieval castle. The large stables, built in the 18th century, are a masterpiece by the architect Aubert and currently house the Musée vivant du cheval (Living Horse Museum). The gardens are one of André Le Nôtre's most notable creations.
