- Fontainebleau Castle
The Royal Castle of Fontainebleau, located 70 km from the center of Paris and located in the city of Fontainebleau, is one of the largest French royal castles.
Visiting the Château de Fontainebleau is like taking a true journey through the lives of several kings and queens of France. The monument is the result of several architectural and artistic interventions by monarchs who resided there between the 12th and 19th centuries, from Francis I to Napoleon III.
The palace today reflects the work of these various French monarchs and was built on the original structure of Francis I. The building is spread around a series of courtyards. Regularly inhabited for 8 centuries, the palace gave rise to the Fontainebleau school, a dominant movement in French artistic creation until the mid-17th century.
Barbizon is a mythical place that predates Impressionism in France. This small and charming town was built in a forest near the Château de Fontainebleau. Intrinsically linked to the arts, the town is known as “the city of painters”. As you stroll through its narrow streets filled with galleries, artists and art lovers, you will blend in with the Parisians who come to Barbizon in search of peace and relaxation.
