From London to Salisbury by train
Salisbury Cathedral sits within an 80-acre walled close and is about an hour's drive from London. The Cathedral is an early example of English Gothic architecture and was built over a period of 38 years between 1220 and 1258. Here, you can see the tallest spire in Great Britain at 123 meters and the world's oldest working mechanical clock, dating back to 1836.
Magna Carta of 1215
Salisbury Cathedral houses the finest surviving version of the world's four remaining versions of the great charter, most famously known as the Magna Carta of 1215. The Magna Carta is a UNESCO-protected document and is permanently housed in the Cathedral's 13th-century stone-carved Chapter House, which depicts sixty scenes from the Old Testament. The Magna Carta is a legal document issued by King John in June 1215 to outline certain rights of individuals. It has over 60 clauses, covering many areas of the nation's life, including the right to a fair trial.
