Activity description
Get a glimpse into the lives and loves of the Crawley family in the capital on a Downton Abbey tour in London! Each wealthy clan had a London apartment to complement their family estate in the countryside, and the Crawleys of Downton Abbey were no different. These fascinating tours allow you to discover the Crawleys in London.
The Crawleys upped their game and left Downton Abbey for London during Rose's summer debutante season on the capital's social scene. Their home in the capital was Grantham House on St. James's Square. But the exterior scenes of the house were filmed in Westminster. It's this kind of insider knowledge that makes this Downton London tour so compelling.
With so many London connections, the city frequently appeared in episodes of the hit ITV period drama. Rose partied hard. Edith inherited The Sketch, along with its London offices and the apartment of her lover, editor Michael Gregson. And of course, there's Roberts' sister, Rosamund Painswick, who lived permanently in London at 35 Belgrave Square and regularly hosted visitors from Downton.
These guided walking tours are packed with remarkably familiar sights, landmarks, and locations, all in the Downton theme. Everything from Rose dancing the night away at the Lotus Jazz Club, where she meets Jack Ross, to the Caxton Hall registry office, where she marries Atticus.
Then there's Lady Grantham, who is taken to the National Gallery by the dashing Simon Bricker, only for her hopes to be dashed when Cora rejects him. Honestly, there's so much London-based drama surrounding the Crawley family, we don't know where to begin!
That's why we'll leave it to our expert guides to show you the familiar locations of Downton Abbey London on these fun and entertaining tours. You'll be on foot for these visits, meeting at Temple Station and ending in Green Park. There are plenty of places to see that will bring all those favorite London scenes revolving around the Crawleys and their home to life—and all at a leisurely, leisurely pace. Enjoy your walk!
