Ahu Akivi Mini Island Tour
Let us introduce you to the mysteries of Easter Island. Departing from Hanga Roa, this tour will take you to Ahu Akivi, the Tahai ceremonial complex, which comprises three main ahu from north to south: Ko Te Riku (with restored eyes), Tahai and Vai Ure, Puna Pau Quarry, and The Te Pahu Cave. Ahu Akivi's 7-Moai platform faces the equinoctial rising sun, with each statue standing about 5 meters high and weighing about 18 tons. According to folklore, the seven statues represent the seven young explorers who left Hiva, a legendary Polynesian homeland, to explore the island after the spiritual priest Haumaka alerted the first chief, Hotu Matu'a, to the island's existence. You'll have time to reflect on this story and many other mysteries of Easter Island as you stroll along exploring the incredible Moai structures.
Half-Day Tour to Orongo and Rano Kau
Spend a day exploring the southwest coast of Easter Island, including the archaeological complex of Ahu Vinapu, the Rano Kao volcano, and the ceremonial city of Orongo. Our first stop will be the Ahu Vinapu Ceremonial Complex, home to one of the largest Moai on the island. Next, we'll head to Rano Kau Volcano, whose slopes offer stunning views of the islets of Motu Nui, Motu Iti, and Motu Kao Kao. Rano Kau has a crater lake that is one of only three natural bodies of freshwater on the island. Heading west, we'll reach the village of Orongo; it was used between 1600 and 1866 AD to worship the birdmen. The village consists of approximately 50 elliptical-shaped houses with shale walls and a small square entrance overlooking the ocean. Arranged in two uneven rows, the lower row ends at Mata Ngarahu, the sacred precinct where the Birdman was once worshipped. This is also the site of one of the island's most lavishly decorated petroglyphs. As you explore, hear some incredible legends about the island.
Anakena Island Full Day Tour
Experience the beauty, mystery, and dramatic scenery of Easter Island on this full-day excursion to Anakena, a white-sand beach believed to have been the landing point of the Polynesian chief Hotu Matu'a, who first colonized the island. The tour begins in Hanga Roa, from where we'll explore the island's southeast and northeast coasts, visiting the temples of Ahu, Akahanga, and Tongariki. The latter temple houses the largest Moai platform near the ocean, with 15 giant statues. Next, we'll head to Rano Raraku Volcano, with its Moai Quarry, where over 390 statues can be found. Here, we'll stop for a picnic in one of the island's greatest natural retreats.
We'll continue the tour by visiting many impressive moai structures in temple formations, such as Ahu Nau Nau. Later, we'll stop at Anakena Beach, one of the few good swimming beaches on the island. Nearby are two small caves within a canyon, as well as the neighboring beaches of Poike and Ovahe, where you'll have time to relax and enjoy the scenery of this enchanting place. The tour ends in Hanga Roa, where we'll drop you off at your hotel.
