You'll savor local dishes in Beymelek, glide along the coast to Kekova Island and its sunken city, then visit the Church of St. Nicholas and the ancient city of Myra. Proceedings begin with a brunch stop to sample organically grown local specialties in the Ottoman village of Beymelek. Then, cruise to Kekova Island, a protected area famous for its underwater ruins. These are the remains of the ancient city of Simena, partially submerged by an earthquake in the 2nd century. There's time for a swim in the warmer months—the water is clear and inviting—it would be hard to resist a dip in the sea. But if the weather doesn't permit a boat ride, there's a visit to the fascinating Demre Museum. After a delicious lunch of freshly prepared traditional dishes at a local restaurant, it's time to visit the Church of St. Nicholas, better known today as Santa Claus. Finally, you'll have time to visit the site of the ancient city of Myra to explore the well-preserved amphitheater and see the intricately carved rock tombs high on the cliff face.
On your way to Kekova and Myra, you'll stop in Beymelek, a small village with 200-year-old Ottoman buildings currently undergoing renovation. Here, you'll stop for brunch near the beautifully restored stone houses. Sample the village's local organic specialties and visit a green house where the residents grow their vegetables.
