- Fight of the Cholitas
The Cholitas' Fight is one of Bolivia's most authentic and surprising cultural spectacles. Held primarily in the city of El Alto, near La Paz, this event brings together indigenous Aymara women, known as cholitas, who enter the arena wearing their traditional costumes: full skirts, long braids, and bowler hats.
Combining elements of wrestling and theater, the performances are filled with acrobatics, drama, and audience interaction. More than just a spectacle, the Cholitas Fight represents resistance, female empowerment, and the appreciation of Indigenous roots.
By challenging gender and origin stereotypes, these women have earned not only the respect of the local population, but also the admiration of tourists from around the world.
Participating in or watching this show is to experience a vibrant part of Bolivian culture, where tradition and boldness meet in an environment of pure energy and identity.
