On this exciting excursion, we'll visit the impressive fumaroles of the Tatio geothermal field, located in the heart of the Altiplano, over 4,000 meters above sea level. Our trip to the Altiplano begins early in the morning to watch the sunrise over one of the world's most important geothermal fields: the Tatio Geysers, where we'll hike around the more than 80 active geysers.
Later, we'll have breakfast in the area before beginning our return journey. We'll pass through the Machuca Bofedales, a slow-flowing body of water that's a haven for flora and fauna, and we'll spot a variety of birds, including flamingos and the occasional vicuña. This bofedale owes its name to the village of Machuca, a local settlement we'll see along the way, with just twenty houses made of adobe, straw, and palm wood. We'll also visit the Putana Wetland, a nesting site for several migratory birds and a vantage point for incredible views of the altiplano, the mountains, and the volcanoes in the distance.
