Activity description
Upon entering the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, a veritable repository of priceless artistic treasures, you'll be immediately struck by the gracefulness of the spaces in its three naves. Led by an expert guide, you'll have the privilege of admiring the marble choir created by Bandinelli, the intricate array of stained-glass windows created by Donatello, Ghiberti, and Andrea del Castagno, as well as the unique clock designed by Paolo Uccello. You'll also be pleasantly surprised to step onto a magnificent mosaic of multicolored marble. When you look up, you'll see the vast and priceless interior of the Dome, entirely adorned with frescoes by Vasari—the largest fresco in the world. Brunelleschi's famous Dome, built entirely of masonry, is an unparalleled symbol of Renaissance architecture.
Next to the Cathedral, in Piazza del Duomo, you'll also have the opportunity to explore the esteemed Museo della Misericordia. On the museum's fourth floor, you'll enjoy a breathtaking panorama of Cathedral Square and its monuments, perfect for taking beautiful photographs. From this vantage point, it almost seems like you could reach out and touch each monument!
This museum is a hidden gem, a little off the beaten path, where you can marvel at works by esteemed artists such as Santi di Tito, Benedetto da Maiano, Sano di Pietro, Bachiacca, Sogliani, G. Battista Naldini, and many other important figures.
And that's not all—don't miss the opportunity to delve deeper into the history of all the monuments in the Duomo Monumental Complex. Included in the admission price is an app that provides comprehensive information about the Cathedral, Brunelleschi's Dome, Giotto's Bell Tower, and the Baptistery!
