Your memorable journey begins in charming San Gimignano, a world-famous walled hilltop town that has remained intact for centuries and is known for its tall towers, stunning frescoes, and many other valuable works of art. Here, your tour leader will take you to the historic center, where you'll have about 2 hours of free time for fascinating exploration.
A short distance from San Gimignano, you will visit the charming historic village of Monteriggioni, a stunning little medieval town surrounded by its famous walls, which remain standing to this day: free time to explore the interior.
From Monteriggioni, crossing the gentle Chianti hills, a short drive will take you to a welcoming winery where you can relax and enjoy the fantastic world of Chianti with its wines and typical products: tasting of three fine wines and balsamic vinegar followed by a Chianti-style lunch: 3 courses with 'zero food miles' products ending with "cantucci e vin santo".
Later, upon arriving in Siena, you'll meet your professional local guide who will lead you on a comprehensive guided tour of the historic center, beginning with the famous Basilica of San Domenico, a jewel of Renaissance art built in the 13th century and dedicated to Saint Catherine of Siena, of which a relic is preserved. Then, strolling through the city's narrow medieval streets, lined with splendid palaces and historic shops, passing through Piazza del Campo, whose Palazzo Pubblico (Town Hall) is the focal point, you'll reach the spectacular 12th-century Cathedral, from where you can admire the magnificent architecture and splendor of the polychrome marble. You'll experience an incredible guided tour inside the famous Siena Cathedral, along with its Piccolomini Library, to discover the beauty of its treasures and works of art. You will visit the unmissable floor (during opening hours), decorated with the art of mosaics to create storytelling masterpieces, Donatello's St. John the Baptist, the rose window by Duccio di Buoninsegna, Nicola Pisano's marble pulpit, the Library that held a rich collection of manuscripts.
You'll also have free time to end your perfect day enjoying the unique atmosphere of this incredible city, before returning to Florence in the evening.
