Activity description
Let yourself be seduced by the timeless charm of Tuscany's artistic cities, where the beauty of the monuments is intertwined with the rhythm of life still on a human scale, and where every stone exudes centuries of history. Through the typical hilly terrain of the Tuscan landscape, we arrive in Siena, a splendid medieval city, universally renowned for its artistic treasures, recognized by UNESCO as a "World Heritage Site." Once in Siena, we'll visit the famous Piazza del Campo, with its distinctive "shell" shape. Here lies the Palazzo Comunale (1298) flanked by the tall Torre del Mangia (1325), where the famous "Palio" takes place every year. You can use your free time to visit the splendid Cathedral, one of the highest artistic expressions of the Middle Ages, and admire the splendid buildings and evocative churches along the narrow, bustling streets. From Siena, we'll take a scenic drive and admire the vineyards and olive groves in the heart of the Chianti region, and on the hilltop, the ancient fortified village of Monteriggioni, a small gem built in the 13th century and embraced by its still-intact walls. A short distance away, in a pleasant rural estate surrounded by aromatic plants, we'll enjoy lunch featuring typical Chianti products and a guided tasting of a selection of fine Chianti and Vernaccia wines, managed with passion and expertise by the friendly farm owner. After lunch, we'll leave the farm and a short distance away we reach San Gimignano, another beautiful town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its still-intact medieval townscape with its numerous beautiful towers, hence the name "Manhattan of the Middle Ages." This town is also known for the "Vernaccia" wine produced here. A stroll through the town center offers true artistic gems, including Piazza della Cisterna, the Dome, Palazzo del Podestà, and the Church of Sant'Agostino. Another departure, this time to reach the famous city of Pisa, one of the most famous in the world, which awaits us with the sparkling view of Piazza dei Miracoli, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, where incomparable marble masterpieces rise from the green lawn. The famous Leaning Tower, the magnificent Baptistery, the stunning Cathedral, and the Monumental Cemetery are pinnacles of Romanesque architecture from the 12th and 13th centuries, home to works of immense artistic value.
