There are different ways to enjoy this historic estancia in the heart of El Calafate—choose the one you like best!
Estancia 25 de Mayo is a half-day tour that visits this typical Patagonian estancia, located very close to downtown El Calafate, highlighting its historical connection to the city's birth and growth. The estancia boasts 17,000 hectares of rural land, stretching from the shores of Lake Argentino in the north to the border with Chile in the south. It's an ideal place to relax and enjoy the scenery at the foot of Cerro Calafate, breathing in the purest Patagonian air.
After pickup from your hotel in El Calafate at 5:30 p.m., visitors will be welcomed at Estancia 25 de Mayo with fried pies (you can also bring your own mate), while learning about the history of the estancia, its early inhabitants, and how activities developed in the early 20th century. There will be a demonstration of the typical Patagonian activity of sheep herding with dogs.
After the conversation and herding, the tour continues with a walk around the farm and along the Calafate Creek, including a visit to the old shearing barn and corrals. There, there will be a demonstration of sheep shearing with scissors, as well as a visit to the organic garden that provides some of the ingredients used in the farm's restaurant dinner.
After the tour of the farm, visitors will be guided to the "El Quincho" restaurant, where dinner will be served (depending on the option purchased).
Starter: empanada criolla and an appetizer
Main course: spit-roasted Patagonian lamb with sausage, black pudding, and organic garden salad
Dessert: your choice.
What sets Estancia 25 de Mayo apart from other tourist resorts is that after dinner, visitors can enjoy a folklore show featuring traditional Argentine dances.
