- Private City Tour of Puerto Iguazú
A walk that takes place every day, usually in the afternoon, and visits 3 locations.
The GüiráOga wildlife refuge ("the house of the birds" in the Guarani language) was born from the need to have an establishment that was located in the same jungle as Misiones and worked with the native fauna of the place.
It was founded in 1997 by naturalists and raptor rehabilitation specialists, who are the current directors of the refuge.
The mission of this refuge is:
RESCUE animals from the Mission jungle that arrive at the refuge from wildlife trafficking, hit by cars on the roads, injured by hunters, or voluntarily surrendered by the population.
RELEASE those that have a chance of surviving in the wild and recover those that do not have this possibility to reintroduce their young.
RESEARCH and develop educational programs to raise awareness of the need to protect wildlife and forests.
THE PROPERTY
The 19-hectare property where Güirá-Oga is located is a Protected Landscape and was named "Andrés Giai" in honor of the renowned naturalist. Güirá-Oga is surrounded by protected natural areas, such as Iguaçu National Park on the southern border, Peninsula Provincial Park, and other protected areas in northern Misiones, where today the greatest biodiversity of wildlife is concentrated.
Due to its location, GúiráOga can respond quickly to authorities to rescue animals and give them the opportunity to recover successfully. The facility was built to prevent forest degradation, so the refuge is covered in centuries-old vegetation, where up to 40 different tree species have been identified, some measuring up to 30 meters.
THE ARIPUCA
La Aripuca is a family-owned Agro-Eco-Tourism enterprise built with the aim of:
Raise awareness about the natural resources we have and their importance
Encourage actions to preserve and promote care for the environment
Promote the culture, beliefs and traditions of the region.
When you visit the park, you'll see a majestic structure made from salvaged trees. Inspired by a typical Guarani trap, "La Aripuca" stands 17 meters tall and weighs over 500,000 kg, and includes 30 species native to the Selva Misiones, many of them centuries old.
THE ORIGIN OF CHESTS
Although the trunks used correspond to protected species and in some cases threatened with extinction due to deforestation and indiscriminate logging, NONE of the trees used in the construction WERE CUT FOR THIS PURPOSE.
Many of the trees were purchased from sawmills, where they were about to be turned into planks and disappear, along with their history, into furniture and other applications. Others were salvaged from farms where they were felled by storms, killed by lightning, or because they had already completed their life cycle.
In this way, we seek to transform the total or partial destruction of this tree into an awareness-raising tool.
You can also enjoy delicious yerba mate and roselle ice cream, artisanal jams, lunch in our exclusive restaurant, and purchase unique wooden crafts, precious stones, high-quality yerba mate, Guarani handicrafts, and other products. All of this is always accompanied by the warmth and attentive service of this family who awaits your arrival.
