Enjoy a guided tour of the Royal Monastery of El Escorial, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 15th century, it is a symbol of the power of the government of the time. Discover all the details of the Royal Mausoleum it contains and the history behind the 21 years it took to build it. Built in the Renaissance style, the building's symmetry will amaze you. Listen to your guide's explanations as you tour the site, visiting the Habsburg Palace, the Chapter House, the Basilica, and the extraordinary library.
If you choose the options:
At the end of the tour, return to the bus for a short transfer to the Valley of the Fallen. The site is located 9 km from El Escorial, in the Sierra de Guadarrama. You can see it from afar thanks to the monumental cross built on top of it. The monument is an underground basilica built into the mountain. It is crowned by the largest cross in the world, which can be seen from miles away.
In the afternoon, we will discover Segovia, a small city that will surprise us from the moment we get off the bus.
The walking tour will begin at the Alcázar of Segovia, one of the most famous and best-preserved medieval castles in the world. The Alcázar probably reminds you of some Disney castles, as its exterior architecture served as inspiration for several Walt Disney films, such as Cinderella's Castle or the Queen's Castle in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
After visiting the Alcázar, we'll head up to Plaza Mayor, where we'll discover a variety of impressive monuments, including Segovia City Hall, the Juan Bravo Theater, and Segovia Cathedral, where we'll enjoy a comprehensive guided tour of its interior. After the Cathedral tour, we'll have free time to explore Segovia at our leisure.
At the appointed time, we'll meet again at Plaza Mayor. We'll discover some of the city's monuments, such as the Casa de los Picos, whose façade features 617 granite peaks, or Plaza Medina del Campo, home to the Church of San Martín, built in 1117, and the Torreón de Lozoya.
We'll end the guided tour at the Aqueduct, one of Spain's oldest monuments. Over 16 kilometers long, it was built over 2,000 years ago. During the tour, we'll learn about its construction, why cement was not used, and the route the water took to reach Segovia.
