ITINERARY
Hotel pickup between 6:30 and 7:00 AM. Once the group is complete, we head north.
Our first visit will be to the picturesque village of Chinchero (the textile center), where we will see agricultural terraces, the remains of Tupac Inca Yupanqui's royal hacienda, the beautiful colonial temple built on the foundations of an Inca building, and observe the entire wool process from washing to spinning into beautiful textiles.
Continuing our tour, we'll reach the famous circular terraces of Moray, where we'll observe several natural wells that were once cultivated terraces for agricultural experiments. This archaeological site was very important during Inca times.
Next, we'll head to the Maras salt flats, where we'll observe the natural salt extraction process that dates back to Inca times. The Maras salt flats, known by some as "salt mines," consist of approximately 3,000 salt wells. They are notable for their construction on Mount Kachi Qata and their Inca architecture.
Next, we head to the Ollantaytambo Fortress, built to guard the entrance to this part of the valley and protect it from possible invasions by the jungle inhabitants.
At the end and back on the bus, we head to the town of Urubamba, where we will have our buffet lunch.
After lunch, we'll head to the town of Pisac, where we'll visit the Pisac archaeological complex, built during the Inka Pachacuteq period. Its strategic location, perched atop a mountain, affords a panoramic view of the entire valley leading to Antisuyo.
At the end of the tour we will return to the city of Cusco, arriving in Cusco at approximately 7:00 pm. Notes: Reservations can be made up to the day before departure.
