Slanic Prahova is an all-season spa resort famous for its healing mineral waters, but its main attraction is the spectacular Salt Mine, one of the largest in Europe and renowned for its healing effects. The temperature is constant year-round at 12 degrees C, humidity at 50%, the air composition is rich in sodium ions, and the atmospheric pressure is 18-20 mm Hg, higher than at the ground surface. The lack of allergens creates a special microclimate that represents a natural environment for treating respiratory conditions.
The salt mine hall is 70 meters high, and the circuit runs along the enormous pillar that supports the mine. You can admire the basso-rilievo works depicting some of the most important figures in Romanian history. You can meditate here, as if in a huge cathedral. Inside the Salt Mine, the atmosphere is incredible; you can find a small history museum, a soccer field, and a playground. The site is also used for various sporting events (athletic competitions and a training ground for sports teams), as a sanatorium for the elderly and the sick, and as a film set.
