Tiwanaku is one of the most important archaeological sites in South America and a true historical treasure of Bolivia. Located about 70 km from La Paz, this ancient ceremonial center was the capital of one of the most advanced pre-Columbian civilizations on the continent: the Tiwanaku civilization, which flourished between 500 and 1000 AD, long before the Inca Empire.
When visiting Tiwanaku, travelers have the opportunity to explore impressive ruins such as the Sun Gate, the Kalasasaya Temple, the Akapana Pyramid, and enigmatic monolithic sculptures that reveal this culture's advancements in engineering, astronomy, and spirituality. The site is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its inestimable historical and cultural value.
The Tiwanaku experience goes beyond the ruins: it's a deep dive into the Andean origins, ancestral wisdom, and identity of Bolivia's indigenous peoples.
