Relax and enjoy the scenery on your way to the city. Follow your local guide on a walking tour of the historic city of Toledo, a World Heritage Site since 1986. Once the capital of Spain, it's a spectacular blend of Moorish, Jewish, and Christian cultures. Explore its fantastic heritage and discover how the coexistence of cultures over the centuries has influenced its current architectural style.
Stroll among the courtyard cloisters and the royal coats of arms at the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. Admire the building, commissioned by Isabella of Castile, which became a mausoleum, the most important structure built during the time of the Catholic Monarchs. After the visit, we'll walk to the Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca. Originally built as a synagogue, it was expropriated and converted into a church just 211 years after its inauguration. Today, it's a fantastic museum of Mudejar art, which you'll visit. Admire El Greco's world-famous painting, The Burial of Count Orgaz, in the Church of Santo Tomé. Did you know that El Greco himself lived in this beautiful city? Next, we'll visit the ancient Mosque of Cristo de la Luz. Of Toledo's ten mosques, this is the best preserved.
If you wish, you can include lunch in your reservation and enjoy a delicious tapas menu featuring the most famous local dishes. If lunch is not included, you'll have approximately an hour and a half of free time to enjoy lunch on your own.
At the agreed time, meet your guide again for a visit to Toledo Cathedral, considered one of the most important Gothic cathedrals in Spain. Admire the stained-glass windows that decorate the nave and discover the history of this magnificent monument. See more than ten paintings by El Greco and stroll through the cathedral while listening to your guide's explanations.
Before returning to Madrid, we will return to the bus and take a brief panoramic tour outside Toledo to the El Valle viewpoint. Notes: * Please note that this tour involves several walking visits; comfortable shoes are recommended.
