- Experience at the Vinciguerra Glacier and the Témpanos Lagoon
Departing from the outskirts of Ushuaia, we embark on a trail that will lead us to discover the imposing beauty of the Vinciguerra Glacier. In the early stretches of the trail, we share part of the route that leads to the enchanting Laguna del Caminante. This area, located in the valley of Andorra, is a protected area under the Ramsar Convention, a wetland of international importance. In this environment, rivers, beavers, peat bogs, and glaciers protect essential water sources for the region.
The route features four notable climbs, which we'll easily overcome thanks to our experienced guide. We also have crampons that will provide excellent support throughout the journey. As we move away from the vegetation, we can closely observe the marks of glacial erosion in the surrounding landscape. The presence of impressive steep peaks, along with others that are gentler, is a clear testament to the power of this natural phenomenon.
One last steep climb takes us to our final destination, a reward reserved for those who persist. From there, we enjoy spectacular views of the nearby glaciers and the lagoon, whose vibrant, intense green hue enchants our senses. Our guide, attentive to the surroundings, searches for the perfect spot for our lunch. Still awed by the magnificence of the landscape, we approach the base of the glacier, where we can come into direct contact with this impressive mass of ice.
This experience offers unique perspectives on a truly captivating place. With memories fresh in our minds, we begin the return journey along the same route, while, from afar, we observe the Beagle Channel and Navarino Island, in Chilean territory.
