Join expert tour guides for a historical journey through 160 years of Baker Street Station, one of the oldest underground stations in the world.
Join us as we discover the origins of the world's first underground network.
Opened on January 10, 1863, as part of the Metropolitan Railway, Baker Street was the birthplace of a revolutionary idea—transporting passengers beneath the congested streets of Victorian London. Cutting a 90-minute journey to just 20 minutes, the Met revolutionized travel in the city and provided the foundation for subway systems around the world.
Explore the closed parts of the station, including original platforms, disused elevator shafts, and hidden corridors in plain sight—some of which were last accessed by the public over 75 years ago, in 1945. Learn about the station's history as the London Underground's Operational Headquarters and hear firsthand accounts from those who worked (and played) there over the years.
This tour will take you on a historical journey through the station's 160 years, beginning with the early days of Victorian-era underground steam travel and ending at the bustling 10-platform, five-line station it is today.
Along the way, you'll hear what early passengers thought about underground travel in 1863, how the Underground grew and expanded over the next 16 decades, and how Baker Street served not only passengers but also London Underground employees.
