ITINERARY
Day 1
Reception at the airport or bus station and transfer to the lodge office to receive important information about the tour.
From there, we'll head to the port and take a one-hour boat ride to our accommodation, where we'll be welcomed with a refreshing local fruit juice.
After settling into our rooms, we'll embark on a two-hour guided hike through the dense rainforest with an expert local guide. Along the way, we'll see a variety of trees, some of which are over 500 years old. We'll also have the opportunity to observe wildlife such as toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, and butterflies. This hike is an opportunity to experience the magic of the Amazon rainforest within the Tambopata National Reserve (278,000 hectares of land protected by Peruvian law).
After lunch, we'll visit Monkey Island, located across the Madre de Dios River from our accommodation. Here, we'll see different species of monkeys, such as the brown capuchin monkey, the squirrel monkey, the saddle-backed tamarin, and the white capuchin monkey.
After the activity, we will return to the accommodation.
At night, we'll search for caimans along the banks of the Madre de Dios River. If we're lucky, we might spot a capybara, the world's largest rodent, which can weigh up to 60 kilograms. For this activity, you'll need to bring a flashlight.
Then we will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2
After breakfast, we will take a short boat ride to the entrance of Lake Sandoval.
After checking in at the checkpoint, we will walk 3 kilometers (approximately 2 miles) to the lake, which is one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve and where piranhas live.
Once we arrive, our guide arranges a rowboat for us, and we'll cruise the lake to observe a variety of bird and monkey species, including cormorants, herons, puma, eagles, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black monkeys, tamarins, and sloths. If we're lucky, we might even spot the endangered giant otter family (almost two meters long) or the largest alligator ever recorded, measuring over four meters long.
We will then return to the lodge to enjoy a typical lunch.
In the evening, we will take a night walk where we can appreciate the diversity of insects, amphibians, reptiles and other nocturnal animals.
Dinner and rest.
Day 3
At 5:30 a.m., we'll spend the morning in the jungle. The Canopy Walkway will allow us to see the jungle from a different perspective, from about 30 meters above sea level. The bridges will give us the opportunity to appreciate nature from a great height, and we'll have a panoramic view of the Madre de Dios River. From the platforms, we'll be able to observe different bird species, such as toucans and macaws.
After the walk, we will have breakfast.
Next, we prepare for an adrenaline-pumping activity among the trees, over 30 meters high. We'll go down the slide, and for this activity, we'll have an instructor guide who will give us a talk on how to use the safety harness during the slide. Feel the adrenaline rush of sliding through the trees; the experience will stay with you forever. There are two cables that support over 3 tons.
We returned to the accommodation for lunch and rest.
In the afternoon, the challenge is to cross the Madre de Dios River by kayak. Along the way, we'll be able to enjoy the mesmerizing sunset.
Afterwards, we can fish in the Madre de Dios River. With a little patience, we'll spot some species of fish, like catfish.
Afterwards, we will have dinner and rest.
